About This Expedition

“A journey through Peru is not measured in distance, but in altitude, history and the quiet persistence of ancient worlds still alive today.”

This itinerary traces a refined route across Peru's most iconic regions — from Lima's contemporary gastronomy to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, onward to Machu Picchu and across the high plains to Lake Titicaca and the dramatic landscapes of the Colca Valley.

Travel is layered with both comfort and perspective, combining private touring with some of South America's most celebrated rail journeys. Along the way, each stay is anchored by Belmond properties — historic hotels and iconic trains that bring continuity and elegance to the experience.

From the precision of Inca engineering to the stillness of the Altiplano, each moment reveals a deeper understanding of Peru — not simply as a destination, but as a civilisation shaped by landscape, altitude and time.

What Is Included

Day by Day

The Full Itinerary

Every day has been sequenced to create a natural rhythm — arriving rested, departing enriched, and never once conscious of the machinery moving beneath you.

“The best journeys are felt in the body before they are understood by the mind.”

Days 1–2

Lima

The Contemporary Beginning

Arrival in Lima introduces Peru through its modern lens — gastronomy, art and coastal rhythm. Your stay at Miraflores Park Hotel offers views over the Pacific and immediate access to the city's most refined districts. Days include private exploration of Lima's historic centre and cultural institutions, balanced with time at leisure — whether relaxing by the rooftop pool or dining at one of the city's internationally recognised restaurants.

Days 3–4

Sacred Valley

Into the Andes

The journey moves inland to the Sacred Valley, where altitude and landscape begin to define the experience. Guided exploration reveals the markets of Pisac, traditional weaving techniques at Awanacancha, and the agricultural terraces of Moray and Maras. Your stay at Rio Sagrado offers a quieter connection to the valley — gardens, river views and space to adjust to the rhythm of the Andes.

Days 5–6

Machu Picchu & Cusco

The Lost City

Board the Hiram Bingham Train for one of the most celebrated rail journeys in the world. On arrival, a private guided visit reveals Machu Picchu beyond the surface — its engineering, symbolism and setting among the surrounding peaks. A second morning allows for a quieter return before continuing to Cusco. Your stay at Belmond Hotel Monasterio places you within a restored monastery, where history and architecture remain central to the experience.

Day 7

Cusco

The Inca Capital

Cusco unfolds through its layers — Inca stonework beneath colonial facades, narrow streets leading to expansive plazas. Private touring includes the city's key monuments and surrounding archaeological sites, offering context to the wider journey.

Days 8–9

Lake Titicaca — Andean Explorer

Across the Altiplano

Board the Andean Explorer Train for a journey across the high plains. Landscapes shift from mountains to open altiplano, with stops at La Raya and Raqchi along the way. At Lake Titicaca, sunrise reveals one of the highest navigable lakes in the world. A private excursion visits the floating Uros islands and Taquile, where traditions remain largely unchanged. Evenings are spent onboard, where dining and observation spaces frame the surrounding landscape.

Days 10–11

Arequipa & Colca Valley

Volcanoes and Valleys

The final stage moves south toward Arequipa and the Colca Valley. Along the way, the scenery opens into wide plains and volcanic formations before narrowing into one of the deepest canyons in the world. At Condor's Cross, the morning reveals Andean condors rising on thermal currents above the valley. The experience continues through traditional villages and quiet landscapes, offering a final connection to Peru's rural life.
